To all the trainers, the dungeon masters, even the dungeon crawlers, we see you.

Stone Kite is a love letter to everyone who ever wanted to join the Fellowship, make the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, or hitch a ride on the back of a giant sand worm. We think new worlds help us make better sense of this one, and that’s why we’re working with hundreds of creators who feel the same way.

You’ve probably heard the word “transmedia” before. It gets used a lot to describe what are actually just multiple adaptations of a single story or concept across a lot of different media.

At Stone Kite, we’re doing something different.

fractal storytelling

Good world-building should be fractal, consistent from its biggest beats to its smallest atoms. No matter how deep you look or how far you zoom out, the shape of the story should be familiar and unmistakable.

We’re building a universe full of entry ways, so you can pick the one you like. If you like comics, start with our comics. If you like fiction, start with our fiction. If you like podcasts, start with our podcast. No matter how you begin your journey with us, we’re creating a world we want to live and play in across all media, so it all connects. As a team, we always build in the same direction.

World-building through fractal storytelling means that every creator is a force multiplier, infinitely expanding the scope and depth of our world.

we’re building the world first

We know audiences no longer experience stories through a single dominant medium. We believe the creative process should reflect that reality. That’s why we build the world first.

We are a collective of industry veterans from places like Marvel, DC, VIZ, Disney, Pixar, Apple, Bungie, Activision/Blizzard, and Riot. In our previous jobs, we each did our own thing, mostly by ourselves. Maybe we wrote the comics while somebody else wrote the book. Built the game while other people made the movie. Designed the creature while someone else decided how it fought or where it lived.

The people making the other things were always in another room, on the other side of a wall, separated from us and from one another, sometimes years apart.

But that’s not how we experience the worlds we love, so we decided to change how we build them.

what we believe

It matters how you build something, who you’re building it with, and who you’re building it for.

Connection and community. That’s what makes teams succeed, and projects thrive. We believe in listening as much as we talk, learning as much as we teach. We believe in expertise but also authenticity, and the real benefit of different global perspectives. We believe in strong ideas loosely held. We believe in having hard conversations up front, because that’s where all the value is. We believe that everybody gets to pitch. We believe that the best idea wins. (And yes, we truly believe there are no bad ideas in a brainstorm.)

We are a creator-driven studio. The creators lead the way, and the world is the boss.

human creativity first

The originality, the craft, and the creative heart of our work stays human.

We don’t farm out our imagination. We care too much about what we’re making. You deserve it. We all do.
